Neighborhood Stargazers — Sharing the wonders of Idaho’s night sky with our neighbors
Upcoming stargazing event: 8:00 PM Saturday November 9, 2024 (Clear skies permitting)
Location: Side deck. Remember to bring your folding chairs, warm blankets, hoodies and gloves !
With its distinctive astro-observatory dome on its rooftop, many neighbors have expressed interest in seeing the amazing night sky images captured by the state-of-the-art telescope in its enclosure. For this reason, our family invites you to join us on our side-porch for a fun evening where a celestial body will be projected on a large movie screen for your enjoyment. You will be able to see the “image stacking” process taking place in real-time while your host describes some fascinating facts about the very distant object under observation. Did you know that one light-year is the distance light travels in one earth-year? This distance is about 5.9 trillion miles! Amazingly, the distance of the images to be shared will be thousands to millions of light-years away!!
Be ready for an awe-inspiring evening!
